An immersive experience to support & motivate youth

Brief: 
A Youth Month activation to give young people in Gauteng hope and access to learning and earning opportunities.
Delivery: 
A Festival of Opportunity - 5 x Regional Youth Expos as platform for a range of partners and stakeholder programmes to engage with a captive audience of youth they wouldn’t easily be able to access on their own, supported by mobilisations, social media, community radio and a partnership with commercial youth radio station, YFM.
Impact: 
With over 70 partners, our Festival of Opportunity empowered 5000 young people, supported over 60 small businesses, reached 2.2 million people on social media and 1.2 million listeners through partnerships with Yfm and community radio stations.

Over a period of 5 years, our Tshepo 1Million Marketing and Comms mandate evolved from simple management of social media channels and production of daily supportive content to delivery of a unique Tshepo 1Million Village at two consecutive Gauteng Youth Expos, development of an integrated below-the-line campaign and ownership of a Tshepo 1Million activation calendar that saw delivery of weekly in-community events with partners offering actual opportunities, community radio promotion across a range of stations, supportive social media and improved visibility across Gauteng. With a primary objective to give young people hope and build trust in Tshepo 1Million, our work translated into a substantial shift in our audience’s perception of and sentiment towards this government programme.

This Festival of Opportunity, a large-scale activation for the programme before it was concluded due to a change in administration, solidified a model of in-community event delivery for us that resonated deeply with young audiences. Delivered by a talented young team, it included the following elements:

  • Industrial Theatre - an original show to entertain, inform and motivate
  • Exposure to partners & tangible work experience opportunities
  • Tshepo Talks to spotlight programmes, run dialogues, profile beneficiaries and other young people doing the most
  • Interactive Workshops - How to Hustle, Financial Literacy, Consumer Education
  • Entrepreneurial Development, Networking and a Marketplace for SMEs to trade
  • Performances by local talent and popular artists from each region
